Demo: Over-the-Air Firmware Updates with Staged Rollout and Rollback

Getting a fix onto devices already in the field is the part of connected device work that keeps people awake. This is that, end to end: a firmware version with a critical vulnerability out in the field, a staged rollout that clears it, and then a deliberately bad build to show what the platform does when an install goes wrong.

What this shows

  • A firmware registry holding five versions for one product, with the vulnerable version flagged and the fix dated.
  • Rollout rings rather than devices: Canary at five, Pilot at ten, General Availability at twenty-five. You set a target on a ring and the platform writes it to every member device.
  • Convergence is instant. Set the target on a ring and every device that is listening is on the new build.
  • The devices that did not converge, named on screen with the reason. They have no agent running and have not reported since.
  • A build staged to fail. The ring's devices download it, verify the signature, install it, fail post-install validation, revert to the last good version, and report why in their own words.
  • Containment. The other two rings were never offered the bad build, because it only ever went to one ring.
